Black is the new Black
Most people build their bikes starting with the frame and then looking for the factory original parts that match. I started this set when I found a set of black Shimano Tourney calipers and knew that I would have no problems finding a bike in the future to fit these to .. Bikes I have considered include a Mongoose Californian, Tange Hot Heart or another Kuwahara.
My favourite brake set from BITD is the combination of Shimano Tourney calipers with DX levers and, again, I have hunted down a NOS front and rear set. Other NOS parts in this colour set are the Suzue low-flange hubs, Suntour stem, Kashimax MX seat and gorgeous Takagi Tourney three-piece cranks.
Two sets of pedals? As I haven't yet thought about what bike I might be building, I have managed to collect two different sets of pedals that fit the 9/16" three-piece cranks. The first set is a set of new Victor pedals which sort of resemble KKTs at a tenth of the price. The second set is a mint set of MKS PB-20 pedals that would suit a Haro build or something similar. Both nice sets but I am still looking for a reasonably priced set of KKT Lightnings.
Other Parts
Building classic bikes is like a big, expensive jigsaw puzzle. Often you see a part you are not quite ready for but you know that it is either rare or cheap and, thus, you buy it in the hope that one day you will use it or sell it again at a profit.
